Project description: The main aim of the project is to design an efficient, cheap and universal technology of plasmachemical modification of the surface of materials. We will compare the effects and efficiency of surface treatments of two types of atmospheric discharges, gliding discharges and plasma jet. These two types of atmospheric discharges were selected based on previous experience and their perspective for dry modification of the surface of 3D (not planar) objects. Since there is no need for a vacuum system for these processes, the processes are very fast and environmentally friendly (eliminating the use of large quantities of liquid chemicals), this is an interesting and promising alternative to conventional wet chemical processes. The project will propose suitable gaseous additives, which will be added to the discharges to improve the effects of plasmachemical surface treatment. Plasmochemical processes will be investigated by optical emission spectroscopy of plasma. The surface of modified materials, such as plastics to improve adhesion of other materials or cleaned metal surfaces, will be analyzed by physical methods of characterizing surfaces and thin films, and the optimal technology proposed for these applications.
